Be Careful, These Are The 10 Most Dangerous Countries For Women!

TODAY the world witnessed women becoming one of the main topics in the discussion about human rights. Efforts to fight for women’s rights can be seen through the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) which is one of the important agenda under the United Nations (UN). Even so, there are still women’s rights that are oppressed in some countries.

The results of a survey based on research by The Thomson Reuters Foundation revealed various related factors, making these 10 countries the most dangerous for women.

India

India is listed as the most dangerous country for women by recording the highest number of cases of threats of violence. This is evidenced by the failure of the Indian government to deal with the rape and murder of a student in Delhi, five years ago, which sparked outrage across the country.

Among the main threats faced by Indian women are sexual abuse, human trafficking, forced labour, sex slavery and domestic slavery.

Afghanistan

The study found that women in the country have suffered a bad fate as a result of the Taliban rule for the past 17 years. It is listed as a dangerous country for women through three aspects, namely oppression of access to health, oppression through economic resources and non-sexual violence.

Syria

After seven years of civil war ended, women in Syria face the threat of limited access to health and non-sexual violence. It includes violence related to domestic abuse conflicts.

Somalia

Ranked fourth, Somalia is the most dangerous country for women due to limited health and economic access for these groups. In addition, there is also a culture practiced by the Somali community that puts women in an endangered situation.

Saudi Arabia

The same study places Saudi Arabia as a dangerous country for women because of its conservative government such as discrimination in the workplace and the right to own property.

Pakistan

Listed as the sixth worst country in terms of economy, Pakistan also practices a culture that threatens women’s lives such as the practice of ‘honor killing’. It also ranks fifth in non-sexual violence such as domestic abuse.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Listed as the seventh most dangerous country for women especially in terms of sexual violence. Congo has also been criticized by the UN because the administration of the country’s government is not able to compete after years of being in a situation of bloodshed.

Yemen

Listed as a country that is unable to provide good access to women in terms of health, economic resources in addition to having harmful traditional practices. Currently, Yemen still depends on humanitarian aid to meet the basic needs of its 22 million people in dealing with the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world.

Nigeria

Listed as the ninth most dangerous country for women due to issues of torture such as the rape and killing of civilians by their soldiers while fighting Boko Haram extremists. Nigeria was named the fourth most dangerous country in the issue of human trafficking in addition to being the sixth country that practices traditional practices that harm women.

United States of America

As the only western country listed as a dangerous country for women from the aspect of sexual harassment. It includes forced sex, and lack of access to justice in dealing with rape cases. The study was conducted in the wake of the #MeToo campaign that went viral last year when thousands of women used social media to share their stories of sexual violence and abuse.
